A city with a turbulent past and an exciting future, Toulouse is a vibrant city that provides busy night spots as well as old town streets which have been converted into trendy pedestrian friendly lanes full of shops, cafes, museums and art galleries.

It’s a regional hub for rail, air and bus transport and a perfect base to explore this part of the divine hexagon.  Check out these 8 videos of some interesting towns that are within approximately 1 1/2 hours by train from Toulouse’s main rail station, although I know there are many, many more to explore!

                               8 great towns to visit by rail from Toulouse:

ALBI – 1 hour northeast of Toulouse

D’AUCH – 1 hour west of Toulouse (plus a 20 minute walk to the city centre on top of the hill)

CARCASSONE – 1 hour southeast of Toulouse (plus a 20 minute walk to the fortress: La Cite)

CASTRES – 1 1/2 hours east of Toulouse

CAHORS – 1 1/2 hours north of Toulouse

FOIX – 1 1/2 hours southeast of Toulouse

CORDES-SUR-CIEL – 1 hr northeast to Cordes-Vindrac (plus a 5.2km walk to the town and well worth it! You can probably get a taxi or a shuttle in peak tourist months)

NAJAC – 1 1/2 hours northeast (plus a 25 minute walk up the hill to the fortress and village)
